I'm Loving > > Fluorescent for Fall

Those of you who follow me on Pinterest (pssst.. follow me!) know that I sort of have a pinning obsession. Pinterest is a great tool for giving you a visual representation of the trends you're drawn too, even if you haven't consciously realized it yet! I logged on today to discover that in the past couple weeks I've pinned tonnns of fashion and design in bright, pulsing, fluorescent colors. It's a far cry from the typical deep jewel tone colors usually seen for fall, but I just love the unexpected!

Dress to Impress.. on an unemployed budget.

We had our career fair this past Friday, and with no job lined up for after graduation this was a pretty big deal for me. I know this is an issue a lot of people are dealing with right now whether you are graduating this year or have been layed off, so I thought it would be fitting to do a Dress To Impress segment with a poor college kid's budget. Eat all the Ramen Noodles you have to, just don't look like you do!

It's simple but still says HEY I DESIGN SHIT AND AM AWESOME while still looking like they can take you seriously. Red is always a good color to catch someone's attention and say hey look at me! but the tan tones it down enough for office wear. (I think I also subconsciously picked red because it's Cincinnati Red's opening day tomorrow. Hollaaaa!) Also note: don't wear the shoes you wear out to a job interview. Thats just dumb. You will look like a hooker and you're feet will be miserable because you're not drunk to block out the pain (or you shouldn't be anyways..). Go for a low conservative heal or flats.

{Inspiration Post} SPRING

The past few days has been in the 70s and sunny. Mother nature is finally starting to thaw cold Ohio and all I can think about is warm sunshine, bright pops of color, hammocks, the Kentucky Derby, sandals, freckles, and blonder hair.

Classics for Class

I KNOW. Everyone wants outfit shots. I love blogs with outfit shots just as much as the next person and I'M SORRY. I just feel weird taking mass amounts of pictures of my self, okay? Does anyone else think it's a little... awkward? Anyways, I won't let my phobia stop me from sharing with you some of my favorite outfits and styling. My InDesign skillz are way more advanced than my photogenic ones anyway.

I love how simple yet comfortable everything is. I had a teacher in high school that once said that if she bothers to look presentable for us everyday then she expects her students to look presentable for her. I'll admit I have worn sweatpants to the occasional 8am class but I try not to make a habit of it. It's a proven fact, people judge based on appearances.

Hi all! I know my lack of posts have been devastating to you the past month or two. I just wanted to say, I'm sorry. I've been busy with finals, life decisions, ect. My only new years resolution (besides, you know, to loose weight like everyone else) is to blog more often, post more outfit shots, and make fun of more people all for your enjoyment. And mine.

In the mean time before life starts and I really get into the swing of this things, I am obsessssed with this song! I'm sorry there's not a video to it, but its a good song I promise. Deal with it.

A Weekend in NYC!

A couple weeks ago me and a few friends decided to hop on a plane and go to NYC. Why you ask? Because we wanted to. So we did! We planned next to nothing aside from the hotel we were staying at and honestly, I wouldn't have had it any other way! The food was delicious, the shopping was amazing, and the clubs were fun. We just went were the wind took us.

I just saw this posted on yahoo when I logged in to check my email. Apparently Will Smith's daughter Willow is the next Rihanna. This girl's got some talent! (That is, I guess, if she's for real singing. You never know these days...) And a lot more creative direction than Justin Bieber, thank God. We don't need another one of those running around. According to Yahoo, Willow is shooting a video for the song later this month in L.A.





Oh, by the way, she's 9. And how does that make you feel about yourself?

Farewell, American Apparel

It was brought to my attention yesterday, VIA Twitter, though I can't remember who tweeted it, that American Apparel is filing for bankruptcy in the near future.

I have mixed feelings about this. First of all, I love AA for their basics. I know a lot of people (including myself at times) think it's ridiculous to pay $25 for a plain tshirt, but when you start looking around it's actually REALLY difficult to find a good plain tshirt! AA fits nice, it feels nice, it holds up nicely... I think it's worth a couple extra dollars for that.

What I don't love about them, and what I think ultimately is killing them, is their soft-core homemade porn marketing strategy. I don't REALLY want to see a girl bending over with her butt up in the air wearing nothing but a string bikini. Nor do I wish to see some creep with a stash in tighty-whiteys. I think they are limiting their branding too much. They need to expand their marketing strategy to reach a larger majority of the population. What I will say for their models though: at least they're not all skinny anorexic bitches. The majority look fairly normal sized. I'll give them props for that.

I don't think AA is going to disappear overnight. Some locations are probably going to be closing. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it's not the one in Cincinnati.

So this is kind of cool.

Sure, Okay.

I almost wish somehow all of these crazy performance artsy things they were doing were kind of crazy and random in the beginning (err.. kind of like they are now), and then they came together to create some kind of "ah-haaaa!" moment at the end, making one cohesive concept/piece/whole/whatever. Isn't that the purpose of art?

Well anyways, it's pretty. Watch it.

Sick Muse

I know this is a bit old but I finally just saw the video for it. If you know me at all you know I'm a die hard Metric fan.

The shirt and dress Emily Haines wears in the video also kind of reminded me of the dress in the post below. Love it! If anyone can find me a shirt like that.... I will give you a cookie :)

So I have moved out of Hotlanta and back to CollegeTown, Ohio where my senior year is already underway. Which really just makes me more anxious to graduate and move back to big city living! In the mean time, I'm posting some inspiring images of Vanity Night Club in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, design by Mr. Important Design (seems kind of fitting for a night club named Vanity).

From the deep red velvet to the mirrored ceilings and honeycomb hallways, Each surfaces and material brings another layer of texture that lends itself to an overall luxorious and indulgent experience, as the name Vanity insinuates.

The center chandelier contains more than 20,000 changing colored LED lights, bringing a focal point to the sunken dance floor, while the powder room welcomes you to sit and pamper yourself before strutting back to the dance floor.

Ahh I wish I could be there instead of sitting at a crappy college bar drinking natty from a pitcher. The woes of being a poor college student...

Atlanta Adventures: Part 2

I’m a bit behind on my blogging due to a general lack of internet access unless I’m in the vicinity of a Starbucks, but I’ll do my best to catch up.

This past weekend a group of friends took me to see a couple bands play at this place called The Drunken Unicorn. (The name itself was cool enough for me to be interested, needless to say) It’s a little hole in the wall underground concert/bar venue, the stage being about one and a half feet off the ground and the whole place is maybe 15 ft wide, max. Very intimate and undergroundy, and thankfully the Hipsterness was kept to a minimum. The two bands we saw were Today the Sun Tomorrow the Moon and Stokeswood. Both definitely worth checking out.  I think by the end of the night we all had girl crushes on TSTM’s lead singer and her cute bangs.  They actually reminded me a lot of Forget Cassettes from Nashville and Stokeswood.. well the pajama pants with  carefully placed stars sewn on them should speak for themselves.

Conveniently directly attached to The Drunken Unicorn is a dance club owned by the same people called MJQ’s. Obviously by the point in the night we migrate over there, I’m loving this place even more. The DJ was awesome. Lots of electronic and R&B type stuff. Breakdancers everywhere. Huge bar – service never being a problem. Migates that dance with you that have been on So You Think You Can Dance. Bunnies painted on the walls… Heaven. Actually the whole atmosphere reminded me a lot of Alchemize, that used to be in Cincinnati if anyone else can remember that far back (I remember being 16 sneaking into that place before it closed down in Over the Rhine. I was a brave little sole back then).

So if you’re in the Atlanta area looking for a local favorite for a fun night on the town, this is definitely the place to be.

8am & Looking Fly (8LF)

I've decided to attempt a new series dedicated to those of us that have problems getting dressed in the morning. Mainly, this is a little motivation to work on this problem myself. If you find yourself hitting the snooze button at least five times before you actually wake up for work, waiting to turn on the light until you have to put on your makeup and it's absolutely necessary, and then proceed to run over the garbage can sitting on the curb outside as you're backing out of the driveway most mornings, then this is for you (gee, that sounds familiar...).

The key to any successful outfit is always simplicity with nice details. At 7:30 in the morning sometimes this is a bit hard to remember. Mostly I find myself throwing on whatever I grab first, but picking out something simple and classic with fresh accessories is always a good way to start when your brain isn't quite turned on yet.

Notice the bow detail, and the interesting bracelet design, and of course a little Gucci never hurts either! I tend to keep my color pallet fairly simple and understated as well and am concerned more with construction of the peice rather than it being super flashy.

On a completely different note, the day I wore this outfit, this is what we did at work:

 Bananas, Nutella, peanut butter, and marshmellows smushed between two tortillas and grilled on a quesadilla maker. Now that is good design.

Productive day at work, right?
